What is an emergency?
An emergency could be:
- A situation where a person's life is in danger. (e.g. a
car crash happens on a busy road, people in the car need help and
there is a risk that other cars could drive in to the
accident)
- There is a risk that someone could hurt themselves or somebody
else (e.g. somebody is being threatened by someone else with a
weapon like a knife)
- A crime is happening or about to happen (e.g. You see somebody
breaking in to a car or a house).
What if it is not an emergency?
If it is not an emergency, then you can contact the police
by phone on 0845 456 4567, at a police
station or online.
Lots of people ring the police because they want to pass on
information, ask for advice or report a crime. Often the reason a
person is ringing is very important, but it is not an
emergency.
For example: someone might come back from their holiday, find
that their shed has been broken in to and that things have been
stolen. It is important to report it to the police but it is not
likely to be an emergency.
Norfolk Police will still take the phone call very seriously.
The 0845 456 4567 number takes you through to our
CCR (Contact & Control room) at Wymondham where there are
people trained to deal with all sorts of phone calls.
